They don't listen

Hurricane Ike has been reeking havoc on the Texas gulf coast this weekend and the stories coming out of the coastal cities are like a flashback to Katrina. I've read and listened to one story after another about how all these people are stranded, without water, food and power. There are people on rooftops and moving around in boats looking for a way out. The residents of the coastal cities had been warned throughout the week of the storm surge that had been expected as a result of the hurricane. Yet some chose not to listen
I don't know what kind of disaster it will take for people to understand that the weather and goverment agencies mean business when they implement a mandatory evacuation. The coast guard and army national guard are now spending millions on rescuing the people that didn't want to listen. I know how important it is that they be rescued but when people are given fair warning shouldn't we draw a line? The efforts and money spent to find and help those that didn't listen could be better well spent on getting the region cleaned up. I'm sure that the people in Beumont Texas would agree seeing as they are facing having no power for up to a month from today. Ouch!!!
